Mohegan Sun Pocono casino gets its sports betting license approved

At a time when New York state is still drawing out a plan to legalize sports betting, northeast Pennsylvania has already stepped up its efforts and attained its license for its first casino.

Earlier in the previous week, on Wednesday, May 15th, The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board gave its approval to Mohegan Sun Pocono for a sports-betting license.

Speaking on the announcement, in a statement, Parx Casino informed the gaming board that it expects to unveil its online sports-betting system sometime in June.

Mohegan Sun Pocono is situated roughly 70 miles south of Binghamton.

As per reports, Counting Parx Casino, sports books are already open at two off-track parlors and in half of Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos.

Sources close to the matter claim that Mount Airy Casino Resort in northeastern Pennsylvania has applied for a license, as Presque Isle Downs Casino in Erie already has a license and expects to start sports betting soon.

As per reports, in order to operate sports betting, Pennsylvania’s casino owners need to pay a $10 million fee according to a 2017 state law.

Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling back in the previous year, several states have stepped up their efforts to legalize sports betting.
