A Mississippi based company files a casino license application in Pope County

Earlier in the week, a company situated in Mississippi went on to apply for a casino license in Arkansas, however, sources claim that the proposal lacks the support of current local leaders.

As per reports, on Monday, May 20th, Scott Hardin, a spokesperson for Department of Finance and Administration revealed that the state received an application back in the previous week from Gulfside Casino Partnership to launch a casino in Pope County.

Notably, back in the previous year, A constitutional amendment voters gave its approval for legalized casinos in Jefferson and Pope counties, after which casinos were launched at a Hot Springs horse track and a West Memphis dog track.

Arkansas state officials said that the application for the Jefferson County license was issued by the Downstream Development Authority.

Notably, in a statement, Hardin claims that former local leaders drafted letters in favor of the Pope County application, however,  Racing Commission regulations stated that only current officeholders can draft letters of support.

As per reports, May 30th would be the deadline for both the Jefferson as well as the Pope applications.
